Western Welding Academy competitions are designed to test real-world welding skills under pressure. This event brings together welders from across Wyoming and neighboring states to showcase their technique in front of industry professionals, judges, and potential employers. Whether you are a current student, alumni, or an outside competitor, this is your chance to prove your skills in a professional setting.Competitors will be tested on welding technique, bead quality, precision, and code compliance across multiple welding processes. The competition is judged by Western Welding Academy instructors who bring 330+ combined years of real-world pipeline and structural welding experience. Judges evaluate each weld based on the same standards used on active job sites and AWS certification tests.Western Welding Academy has trained over 2,000 graduates since it was founded in 2019 by Tyler Sasse. 94% of graduates were hired within 90 days of completing their program. Graduates go on to earn between $40,000 and $125,000 per year in pipeline, structural, and specialty welding careers. Our campus in Gillette, Wyoming features state-of-the-art welding booths and is the number one AWS Accredited Testing Facility in the country.The competition is held at our campus located at 26 Kinsey Lane, Gillette, Wyoming 82716. Programs at Western Welding Academy range from 12 to 24 weeks with all-inclusive tuition covering housing, tools, welding materials, and certifications.
