Howdy! My name is Chase Smith and I am the first shift lead instructor here at Western Welding Academy. My welding career started when I was about 19 as a welder’s helper. I was a helper for 2 years, then I was able to get into a shop and start welding. I have about 10 years of experience in oil and gas and coal mines.
When I am not teaching, my 5 kids keep my wife and I very busy. We like to spend time with them camping, hunting, and fishing. One of the best things about growing up here in Gillette is all of that stuff is only about an hour away.
Teaching others is something I had never done before I came to Western Welding Academy, and it’s really made me look at welding from a different perspective and made me a better welder overall. The thing that I think is different about Western Welding Academy is the atmosphere. The idea that we are more like a family here has made it an enjoyable place to work. I feel like when you have an incredible program, an awesome team, and highly experienced instructors that enjoy what they do, the end result is a student that comes out as a very confident and hireable employee.
